The David Eggers Story
Us kids of the Eighty's knew him all too well. The Child Prodigy. Especially those of us who surfed around San Diego. We watched him in awe, hoping that someday he would bring an ASP Championship home to San Diego. He set the bar as an amateur, then turned pro at 16. He quit the tour at the end of his first year Pro then went into the underground La Jolla seen. Most of us hoped the best for him, but rumors soured, and unless you were one of the people he was running with, you never got the real story. You always heard it was bad, but always wondered. Luckily, the latest edition of The Surfers Journal ran a story on David, and gives all us outsiders a small glimpse into Davids life. I wish the best for him, and hope that someday he gets back to surfing, and becomes stoked like a grom again, without the pressures of the past.

I was pretty stoked to see this article on egghead as well.I had to turn my back years ago but always wondered how he was doing, gonna have to roll up on my bike oneday to the salton sea and say high to him and pops -- s.a.

i am also happy to see the article. I knew him back in elementary and jr high. life happened and i had to leave the area. Ive always wondered what happened to him and how well he did. Im sorry to hear about the bad stuff and hope the best for him in his future.

I also grew up in S.D. with David in Lindbergh elem. school and was friends with his brother Tim, we used to hang out everyday. David was only in 3rd grade but he was already tearing it up back then. His older bro Scott and the guys from Clairemont Surf shop would take him along and they'd rave about David's surfing. The Eggers are good people and hope he and the family are doing well.

I grew up surfing both coasts and actually surfed against Kelly in NSSA. David was a far superior surfer to Kelly when we were kids. David's downfall made Kelly's career. Just tragic. Glad to hear he is doing well. There is much more to life than millions of dollars and all the hot girls you could ever want.
